Going from a promising young talent at Manchester United to facing a lot of uncertainty, let's take a look at Mason Greenwood's journey.

In February this year, the criminal charges against Greenwood were dismissed

After a difficult couple of months, Manchester United's player Mason Greenwood was seen training at a public park this month. He had been away from the game since he was arrested for alleged actions in January last year. Although the charges were dropped in February this year, he hasn't been allowed to play yet. Manchester United mentioned that they've finished looking into the matter, but they still haven't decided what's next for Greenwood. The club is in the last stages of making a choice about the 21-year-old's future.

Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Mason Greenwood walk on the field at the end of a match.

"Our fact-finding investigation is done, and we're close to deciding on Mason's future. Despite what's being speculated in the media, the decision isn't made yet; our team is deeply considering it. The Chief Executive Officer will have the final say," stated an official message from Manchester United.

"After we've decided, we'll let everyone within and outside the club know about it. This situation has been tough for everyone at Manchester United, and we understand that people have strong opinions because of the limited information available. We're asking for some patience while we work through the final steps of this careful process," the statement stated.

Manchester United were expected to sort out the situation with Greenwood before the new season began. However, the decision-making process has been delayed because the team management is still talking to various parties including the women's team and a group of fans who give advice.

Even though Greenwood is still part of Manchester United, many other clubs have shown interest in signing him. A report said that Manchester United has thought about letting Greenwood go on loan. Clubs from Turkey and Italy seem to be interested in him. There were also reports that former Manchester United boss and current Roma manager Jose Mourinho thought about borrowing Greenwood for a while.

Greenwood's last competitive match was in January 2022 against West Ham, where Manchester United won 1-0. He started his Manchester United journey in March 2019 during a Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). Since then, Greenwood has played 129 times for the team and scored 35 goals. He became the youngest goal-scorer in a European tournament for Manchester United in September 2019. Greenwood extended his contract in February 2021 and is set to stay with Manchester United until 2025.

On Wednesday, The Athletic reported that Arnold had disclosed to club executives that he had decided to allow Greenwood to return. United boss Ten Hag and football director John Murtough were allegedly open to the outcome, as many several other names on the sporting side.

Arnold planned to announce the decision on Friday, August 4, before postponing as he looked to inform key stakeholders, including the women's team and fan advisory board. United simultaneously released a statement, insisting a decision hadn't been made but that the probe was in its final stages.
