The Economic Situation at FC Barcelona

It is no secret that Barcelona are in a financial crisis and must make major cutbacks to their first-team squad ahead of the new season. Barcelona are unable to register the new contract of star player Lionel Messi nor any of their four summer arrivals as they are operating far beyond their wage budget The Catalan giants were forced into making drastic savings last year when Luis Suarez, Arturo Vidal, Arthur Melo and Ivan Rakitic were all moved on, along with wage reductions across the squad. This summer will be even more complicated with yet further slashes to the club’s wage budget and players no longer will to continue to accept wage reductions. Full-back Junior Firpo is joined English Premier League side Leeds United in a deal that would save Barca around $11 million per season, according to Goal's report. Portuguese midfielder Francisco Trincao has also been loaned to Wolverhampton Wanderers with an option to buy. American forward Konrad De La Fuente has been sold ...

Memphis Depay: What Barcelona can expect from him

This is a sensible transfer and a reasonable one for the Catalan side. After spending $100m+ on individual players that haven't hit the ground running in Camp Nou.  The blaugrana side has a lot of manpower upfront. So with Memphis Depay arrival, one or two will give way for him- and it looks like Koeman will start him in every match this season. Memphis Depay has officially become a Barcelona player. The Catalan giants announced the signing of the Netherlands forward on their social media handles on June 20. That puts an end to the constant speculation that the two parties have been through together for several months. Depay is a player heavily favoured by Ronald koeman . The tactician tried to bring him to Camp Nou last summer but a deal couldn't be reached between Barca and Lyon. After watching his compatriot Georginio Wijnaldum hijacked by Paris Saint-Germain recently, Blaugarana knew they couldn't take any risks so they quickly wrapped up the attacker's ...

Ronaldinho: The painful end of a beautiful magician

Ronaldinho was not only a footballer. He was an "Entertainer", a Magician. Its very important for an entertainer to stay motivated & be loved by his enchanted audience. Ronaldinho lost that desire to perform at the highest level.  He had conquered it all. Champions league,World cup, Spanish league, Copa America....everything...there wasn't any challenge left for him. His case is reminiscent of the George Best story. Even he had done it all & at a far younger age than Ronnie; Even he lost that motivation & was more attracted by the stardom that football offers. Later on in his life, he talked about it in an interview. Coming back to Ronaldinho, here was a man who was the purest form of an entertainer that the world of football has ever seen. He loved the love that he received from across the world. He craved it, he did things on the field that made people stay glued to their T.V sets; He was intoxicating.  2006 World Cup...The Turning Point-  I thin...

ARGENTINA: Champions of Copa America

Argentina have now lifted Copa America trophies 15 times and thus equalised with Uruguay for having won the most titles in history. Argentina’s win was a particular triumph for Barcelona striker Lionel Messi, who picked up his first ever title in a blue and white shirt after more than a decade of club and individual honours. A star player’s glittering career finally gets the one honor it was missing: a major title with his national team. Lionel Messi ended his wait for a first major international title as Argentina beat Brazil in the Copa America final in Rio's Maracana stadium. Going into the final Brazil were favourites to pick up the victory but fate was with their bitter rivals. Argentina overcame that difference in level with good strategy, but if you look at the coachs, Argentina has Scaloni, who seems to be someone who knows his team's strength and weakness.  Brazil saw just under 60% of possession in this match, Argentina took the lead early through Di Maria...

La Masia: The future of FC Barcelona

La Masia, Barcelona's world famous youth academy was founded with the same dutch philosophy of total football which legendary coach Johann Cruyff brought with him when he was manager at Barcelona. It was same founding principle of football used in Barcelona senior team that was also used by La Masia; No difference at all. La Masia is a symbol of FC Barcelona. La Masia the home for Barcelona’s youth players who live and grow up in the residence. Many of Barça’s most prolific stars have lived here, and it is part of the club’s culture, history and etiquette. One of the key reasons for this great achievement of FC Barcelona is the world class players they have. Most of them were produced through their own cantera or youth academy, known as 'La Masia de Can Planes’ usually called as La Masia, which is arguably the best youth academy in the world. The likes of Iniesta, Xavi, Messi, Puyol have all graduated from La Masia. La Masia has also been instrumental in the success...

SERGIO BUSQUETS: WHEN FOOTBALL BECOMES ART

When you think of Barcelona’s successes from 2008 onwards the three players who immediately come to mind are Lionel Messi, Andreas Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez. There’s another player though who is rarely spoken about that should receive equal praise in relation to how Barcelona perform. His name is Sergio Busquets. Sergio Busquets is probably the best defensive midfielder in the world and also  he is a rare breed of players who do the job of both defensive midfielder as well as a deep lying play maker. He stands out for his technical ability and his unsurpassed reading of the game.An expert at his role, Sergio Busquets is a player who undoubtedly deserves his place amongst the world’s best. Any manager who is lucky enough to have him in their squad must love being able to take a step back and have the privilege of marvelling at an incredibly gifted player who can absorb instructions and exquisitely carry them out on a football pitch.  Nonetheless, hindsight offers a...

BELGIUM : THE RISE OF GOLDEN GENERATION

B elgium have struggled in football and went low key after its brilliant performance at the 1986 world cup was cut short by Maradona’s brace in the semifinal. There is a very old saying that goes - “when the environment is right the right people will appear” This has largely been the case for Belgian football - they drastically changed their system of coaching and producing talent (changing the environment players were developed in) and a whole list of naturally talented footballers seemed to follow or simply appear at the right time. in the early 2000s they went about working with all the clubs in the country and delivering coaching manuals on how best to develop technically good players who are tactically astute. And another big change was focusing on player development rather than results in matches. Every game became a learning process - rather than to win at all costs-which can subsequently stunt development. Parents were also not allowed to scream things at the kids from th...
