Man City put the German leaders Bayern to the sword

It was always going to be a tall order for Bayern and their boss Tuchel to beat City but on the night City were a class above. Probably Bayern with Nagelsmann still in charge would have been more solid. Anyway credit to City who were just superb. Every player in the sky blue shirt put in a great performance. City finally look like they are determined to make sure that this is the season their hoodoo of not winning the Champions League is broken and this win is a step in that direction for them.

An even first half decided by a moment of Real brilliance from Rodri. Given the space and time to shoot, the Spaniard curled an unstoppable shot that found the top corner and gave Sommer no chance.
Bayern had done well till then but City found their moment of magic in the first half. A few sighters for ex City man Sane in the first half.

In the second half as the minutes wore on it looked like City would take a 1 goal lead to Germany but then they got more goals.
First Upamecano was caught in possession by the impressive Grealish who back heeled a pass for Haaland who saw that he did not have much room to shoot an instead lifts a cross to Bernardo Silva who headed in despite the valiant efforts of Sommer.

The all important third goal came for City. A corner worked short to Stones at the back post who nods across goal to Haaland who stretched to knock in a third and get his goal in the tie as well. This is the Norwegian’s 45th of the season across all competitions a record for any player in the English top flight.
A familiar tormentor of City in his Liverpool days, Bayern man Sadio Mane could not make a difference when he was substituted on in the second half.

City have got a foothold in the semi final now. Next week’s tie in Germany, Pep going back to his old club should be a formality now for City.

With this win Pep got his revenge for the CL final defeat that Tuchel got over him when Chelsea beat City in the final two seasons ago.
