Eventually, Madrid took the lead when they broke down the left due to the run from Asensio who then fed Vinicius. He then smashed the ball into Torres which resulted in an own goal.

Villareal’s goalkeeper then made crucial saves to deny any further lead to Madrid. Chukwueza's constant attacking threat paid off when he received a through ball picked out the bottom left corner to equalize the scoreline.

In the second half, Madrid again took the lead when Vinicius took the ball from Ceballos and finished from close range. Vinicius then missed the chance to extend the lead when he received a through ball from Benzema but he could only pull his shot wide of the near post.

Villareal equalized the scoreline after it was initially ruled out as offside. The VAR corrects the decision. Villareal took the lead for the first time in the game when Chukwueza's brilliant curling effort from the edge of the box put Villareal ahead.
