LEICESTER CITY : HOW THEY STAGED THE GREATEST UPSET IN SPORTING HISTORY

Its a story of "NEVER GIVE UP" attitude or of The Whole is greater than the Sum of it's parts, as stated by Aristotle. Nothing could have prepared football fans for Leicester City's remarkable run in the 2015-16 English Premier League. The Foxes were 5000 to 1 to win the title on the se ooo ason's opening day. And yet, after more than three bewildering months in first place, leaving even their staunchest fans rubbing their eyes, The Foxes clinched the title after Tottenham Hotspur F.C. failed to beat Chelsea F.C. on may 2nd.    The Foxes were promoted to the Premier league last season. They played woefully, spending four consecutive months in last place, only to win seven of their last nine matches to escape relegation with a game to spare. in next season, bookmakers gave Leicester a smaller chance of finishing top than of Jeremy Corbyn becoming the next James bond(1000 to 1). Only four clubs have won the league title in the past 20 years, each with enormous fina...

ANDERS INIESTA: EL ILLUSIONISTA

The world is filled with smart people irrespective of the percentage, and Football is the most followed game on the planet(plus Aliens who rock!). Means, on every street we find people who know the game too well, in and out. In such a world Iniesta is at the top for making the best of footballing intelligence and creativity. Iniesta was relatively short, not too fast not the most agile either, nor was he a dribbler like Neymar, Ronaldinho, even then he dictated the gameplay like few ever managed, now that is what is incredible.(He was agile and a world class dribbler, but perhaps not the best at it.) From the start he progressed rapidly through the club's various youth teams and was promoted to the Barça B team for the 2000-01 season, where he almost immediately became the team's main playmaker under coach Josep Maria Gonzalvo. Andrés' dream of making the first team finally came true in October 2002 when he was picked to play in the Champions League game against...

XAVI: THE CAMELEON EYES

Xavi Hernández Creus is a footballer who played for the Catalan club F.C. Barcelona and the Spanish national team for many years and won several major honors with both the sides with being a key element in both. His collection of silverware outshines any modern footballer. Xavi’s midfield dominance was supreme and classy, it looks very simple to naked eye but it wasn’t as simple to do as many players. It was a style which was molded into the Barca youngsters in La Masia and Xavi epitomized it. Vision, Passing, Press-Resistant, Skills, Combine all that and you’d get Xavi. What a joy it was to watch him play. The way he dictated the game was truly remarkable and that 180 degree turn to ward the pressing defenders off. Schooling and toying with those 6ft opposition players. You don’t get to see that everyday. Oh how did Xavi, Messi and Iniesta toy with the Real Madrid players during the Clasico. Funny how time flies by so fast. Xavi’s masterclass included outclassing several ot...

REAL MADRID: THE KINGS OF EUROPE

Real Madrid won 3 three consecutive UCL titles during 2016–2018 because they had a great squad , a great man manager and p one of the greatest football player of all time if not the greatest in Cristiano Ronaldo.  Zidane's tenure started in January 2016 and took over a struggling side and managed to conquer the Camp Nou in his first visit. This was a vital momemt in that campaign and restored faith in the team and fans. They had some impressive performances like winning the El Clasico 2–1 at the Camp Nou and breaking Barca's 38 match unbeaten run. At the end of the end season they were the champions of Europe and narrowly lost the league to FC Barcelona. Now the question that arises is "What makes Real Madrid so good in the Champions league?  Real Madrid consider the UCL their competition simply because of how successful they've been. It's a trophy that is coveted by the team and fans. Madrid are a different beast in Europe partly due to this history and al...

MY FOOTBALL JOURNEY

As an indian, i was always attracted to cricket from my childhood and as we are cricket crazy nation. We played cricket on the street like a kid from south america or Europe would play football.  I was introduced to football through world cup matches. So it’s 2006. It was June and the FIFA World Cup had begun. My dad was and still is a crazy football fan and  I used to vouch for cricket then. My dad and I used to watch football World Cup together in '06. At that time I had no idea about club football, I got know about club football through news channel where they were reporting that Barca winning champions league. I started following FC Barcelona and I fall in love with the way play and football games also played a huge in my case. It started when I started playing FIFA 08 Game and I always pick FC Barcelona as my team and from that day I used to knew well about FC Barcelona players and became the fan of Lionel Messi. Further on I started watching international mat...

GERMANY : Irrepressible winners of 2014 FIFA world cup

Germany have had a very good record in international tournaments in recent times, and a major reason behind that is they have had continuity in the manager's seat. Loew was the assistant to the then manager Jurgen Klinsmann in World Cup 2006 and inherited the responsibility after him. So he is intimately familiar with the current German players, most of whom have come through pretty recently, the exceptions being Klose, Mertesacker, Schweinsteiger and of course Philip Lahm. It is widely accepted that Germany is experiencing a boom of outrageously talented youngsters, and as always the biggest dilemma for Loew was whether to pick the best players or the best team. He played his cards brilliantly in this respect. Strategically benching Gotze, getting the best out of Toni Kroos by giving him responsibility when there were question marks over his attitude, managing a half fit Schweinsteiger and an even less fit Khedira to get maximum results, all speak volumes about his tactical pedigr...

Why has Italy won the World Cup the most amongst European nations?

Let me tell you , Germany now has the same number of world cups as that of Italy. But yes, When it comes to major achievements in the international arenas, no nation has won as much as the Mediterranean country. So what is the secret behind this success? Madonna once famously flaunted a slogan T-Shirt with the caption: "Italians do it better". And while the Princess of Pop was suggestively alluding to another physically popular pastime, she could just as well have been referring to soccer. Tactical Supremacy On a purely footballing level, there is little doubt that Italy’s tactical supremacy has been a key weapon.Whether it be Helenio Herrera’s Catenaccio, Sacchi’s total pressing or Luciano Spalletti’s ‘False 9’, the peninsula has long been at the forefront of strategic innovation. There is a unique obsession with tactics in Italy. Its importance is drilled into children from a young age and Jose Mourinho once amusingly remarked that “everyone in Italy thinks they...

FC BARCELONA : What you should know

Cruyff was the beginning of the tactical era for barcelona. Though they wouldn’t play short passing like the way Guardiola used to, they played more directly. They played with three at the back predominantly, this is because he liked to keep as many defenders as forwards( i.e. as few as he could). In his system, the number 4 was one of the most important, as he would recycle the ball between the defenders and the rest of the midfield and play it out wide into more space. This system asked the players to widen the pitch and create spaces while attacking while it required players to play narrow while defending. Controlling possession and tempo of the game was utmost priority and they would press urgently upon loosing the ball.  He said: The difference between a good and bad footballer is how well you control the ball and where you place it with your first touch, accommodating it for yourself in the right direction or sending it accurately to your team-mate —Johan Cruyff G...
