YOUNG PLAYERS TO LOOK OUT FOR IN THE UPCOMING SEASON 2021-2022

These promising young talents remain under the radar but could break into the limelight in this campaign.

As the new season in football begins, there are players moving in and around the club. While some have retained the same core sides, some have chosen to dip into the transfer market. But a selected number of young players, are expected to have good seasons.
Every year, a collection of young players emerge and make their names. One of the most exciting aspects in football is to witness young players trying to make a name for themselves. The prodigies often find themselves duelling with experienced players and sometimes, comes out on top. As the 2021-22 season beckons, there are a few comparatively lesser-known young players, who are looking to have a breakout season.

RYAN GRAVENBERCH (NETHERLANDS/AFC AJAX) 
Age: 19
Position: Centre midfielder

Gravenberch made his Ajax debut aged 16 and now, three years later, is being spoken of as the Netherlands' next big thing. Gravenberch is a central midfielder by trade, who has made 61 appearances for Ajax, at an age of only 19 years.

He earned a reputation as a precocious talent as he rocketed through the age groups in both Ajax’s academy and the national youth teams. Blessed with technical ability and the physical strength to match, he had no trouble keeping up with older players.

He featured for the Netherlands at the UEFA EURO 2020, making two appearances. He is also one of the most highly-rated midfielders coming out of the Eredivisie.

JEREMY DOKU (BELGIUM/Rennes)
Age: 19
Position: Forward

He is one of the few names in the Belgium squad you might not have heard of going into EURO 2020 - but the way he announced himself to the world against Italy, all we can say Doku has a very bright future ahead of him. 


Currently playing for French side Rennes, Doku is a 19-year-old with amazing trickery and dribbling ability.He played 33 games in which scored 3 times in league 1

Belgium youngster Jeremy Doku caught the eyes of many big clubs across Europe with some great performances for his country at the Euros.

Ander Barrenetxea (Spain/Real Sociedad)
Age: 19 
Position: Winger/Striker

Ander Barrenetxea is a 19-year-old forward who can play as a winger and striker. Still just a teenager, Ander Barrenetxea has the majority of his career ahead of him. An electric attacker, he’s one of the rare few who can make a difference independently. His potential, however, is frightening. It seems more of a ‘when’ rather than an ‘if’ when speaking about a possible rise to becoming one of the best wingers in La Liga, if not Europe.

MIKKEL DAMSGAARD (Denmark/ Sampdoria)
Age: 21 
Position: Central midfielder/ Winger

Euro 2020 may have drawn to a close to the chorus of Italian celebrations, but one of the players that undoubtedly enjoyed it the most was Mikkel Damsgaard.

Mikkel damsgaard is 21-year-old central midfielder who can play in behind the striker through the middle, or as a winger or a left forward. Though his goal contributions are not eyewatering, he is still learning his trade at just 21-years-old and is part of a Sampdoria side who can run hot or cold.

In terms of his creativity, he averaged 2.3 completed dribbles and 3.2 completed crosses per match in Serie A.

SERGIO ARRIBAS ( Spain/Real Madrid)
Position: Right Winger

A Real Madrid academy graduate, Sergio Arribas is one of the most highly rated young players in Spain at the moment. One of the biggest positives of the 19-year-old winger is that he is versatile and can play on either wings. 

Arribas has caught the eye with some brief cameo appearances for Zinedine Zidane’s first team this season, and those that know the club and player expect plenty more opportunities to come his way.

The midfielder has been one of the B team’s standout players this season, starting 10 of their 16 games, maintaining his prolific rate of goals and assists at a higher level.


THIAGO ALMADA ( Argentina / Velez)
Age: 20 
Position: Winger / Midfielder

Almada is gifted on the ball, able to create on the dribble and distribute the ball to teammates. He enjoys playing up-tempo and always seems to be heading towards goal.

He has 38 appearances with seven goals and three assists during his three seasons in Argentina’s top division. That is a lot of time and games for a young player in such a competitive league. 


Piero Hincapie (Ecuador/ Talleres)
Age: 19 
Position: Center back

Piero Martín Hincapié Reyna is an Ecuadorian professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Argentine Primera División club Talleres and the Ecuador national team. He was one of the best youngsters at the Copa America 2021. 

The defender is one of the most highly-rated young players in South America and impressed everyone with his composure and defensive prowess. He will be under the scanner of several top clubs in Europe and South America ahead of next term.


JONATHAN DAVID (Canada / Lille)
Age: 21
Position: Forward

Jonathan Christian David is a Canadian professional soccer player who plays as a forward for Ligue 1 club Lille and was a crucial part of their league triumph in the 2020/21 season. 

He registered 13 goals and five assists for the outfit in 48 games. His debut campaign with the club was a huge success and David will be under the radar of several top European clubs.



BRAIN BROBBEY (Netherland/ RB Leipzig)
Age: 19 
Position: Striker

Brian Ebenezer Adjei Brobbey is a Dutch professional footballer who plays as a striker for Bundesliga club RB Leipzig. 

He is a product of the Ajax academy and scored 37 goals in 41 games for their Under-19 side over the last three previous seasons.
Brobbey scored for the senior Ajax side on his Dutch league debut in October and has managed two goals in seven appearances, all off the bench.

All twenty teams have been in the action over the past few days heading into a busy period in LaLiga with a full midweek fixture list.
